Black screen following upgrade to Win 7 Ultimate but OK when out of sleep mode

I have a Sony VCG LA2 and recently upgraded from Vista (Home Premium) to Windows 7 Ultimate. It boots up perfectly, I see the Windows 7 logo, however the screen goes black & not even the mouse is visible.

However, when it goes into sleep mode and I press enter, the screen is perfect & everything operates normally.

To get round the issue, I have changed the sleep button to kick in after 5 minutes so that the black screen disappears after these 5 minutes.

I have updated the Nvidia drivers & still have this annoying black screen. I

Any suggestions?

According to your problem description, I suggest you go to Windows Safe mode and then roll back the display adaptor driver.
