Importing DV tape to iMovies from DCR-HC19E

I am trying to import DV from my SONY DCR-HC19E to MAC using firewire cable.  Unfortunately iMovies doesn't recognise the device.  Does anyone know of any software that can do this for me?  Many thanks.

    Hi cliftonjack, welcome to the Sony Forums

     

    iMovie should have no problem with the HC19e. Have you tried using another firewire cable? They're often the source of connection problems.

    Thanks Mick.  I have actually taken it in to the Apple store and they've tried another cable and another Mac and still no luck.  I've seen a lot of stuff on the net with others experiencing similar problems.  Hopefully there is an answer somewhere.

    Are you powering the camera from the mains? That's important. Make sure it's powered on, in VCR mode, before you launch iMovie.

    Yes I've done all that.  Still no luck. I'm going to the Apple store again next week to see if they have come up with something.  Thanks for your help.
