I have had each iteration of this MP3 player as Sony has in my opinion produced the best music player for gym users such as myself. But. The competition is very limited for wearable MP3 headphone combinations and by no means is this Sony item perfect. It is however, a considerable improvement on the previous version which had a grim power on/off button and serious failure issues whereby it would simply stop working - which happened to mine. First off the buttons are much nicer to use and that makes a real difference. Once you have got the muscle memory in place it's all good. The overall construction both appears and feels very good and Sony seem to have moved back up a step from the previous model fortunately. It is also very secure on the ears and there is an additional rubber adjuster that can be fitted along with different ear buds to turn this into a MP3 player suitable for swimming with. And Sony seem to have worked out that they can't make software and this is a simple drag and drop operation for compatible files or you can sync using Microsoft Media Player which I do. But - like each version Sony have made there are improvements and retrograde steps. Whilst there is no doubt this is a much better player than before Sony have taken away the storage/charging cradle which held the player together securely which was ideal when being dumped in a sports bag. This player has a very small charging-transfer unit that fits to one side only meaning you have to be very careful when removing it from a bag in case it is pulled apart too much. In use the sound is good not brilliant. For my ears slightly bright. And not loud enough as Sony being a responsible company adhere to the dB safe levels which may not be loud enough to completely drown out the piped in stuff in some gyms. For use outside it would be fine I guess. There is a function to allow ambient noise to be heard which is something that road runners may find useful as cars etc. can be heard. Overall though, this is my gym player of choice because it sounds good and I don't have faffy wires hanging around me.

A present for me to use when swimming. Followed all instructions and began to use it, but after 2 30 minute swims, in fresh water, it just gave up and became completely unresponsive despite all fixes / advice, including from Sony.

Ich habe mir den wasserdichten Walkman von Sony gekauft, in der Hoffnung, beim Schwimmen Musik oder Podcasts hören zu können. Leider wurde ich extrem enttäuscht. Die Soundqualität ist wirklich unterirdisch: Der Ton ist viel zu leise, selbst auf maximaler Lautstärke. Mit den typischen Geräuschen im Schwimmbad – Wasserplätschern, Kindergeschrei, andere Schwimmer – ist es fast unmöglich, etwas klar zu verstehen. Musik hören macht so überhaupt keinen Spaß, weil die Klangqualität völlig flach und kraftlos ist. Podcasts gehen gerade so, wenn man sich wirklich konzentriert und die Umgebungsgeräusche etwas nachlassen – aber von entspanntem Zuhören kann keine Rede sein. Ich verstehe wirklich nicht, wie man im Jahr 2025 ein Gerät mit so miserabler Audioleistung auf den Markt bringen kann, gerade wenn es explizit für den Einsatz im Wasser beworben wird. Ich behalte das Gerät, weil es zumindest *irgendeinen* Ton liefert und mir das Schwimmen etwas weniger monoton macht. Aber allen, die sich auf guten Sound beim Schwimmen freuen – besonders bei Musik –, kann ich nur dringend von diesem Produkt abraten. Dieses Gerät ist leider keine Empfehlung wert.

Ça faisait 8and que j’utilisais la version précédente lors de mes entraînements en piscine et j’étais ravie. Le nouveau modèle aura duré 20minutes avant qu’une touche ne se bloque et qu’il cesse définitivement de fonctionner. Rien à faire pour le réparer. J’ai renvoyé l’appareil, j’attends le remboursement.

Niveau sonore hyper bas. Au bout de 6 mois, il n'enregistre plus de nouveaux morceaux et pour finir ne tient pas la charge. Absolument NUL !!!!! Remboursement à venir...

This is my 2nd purchase. I bought my 1st one in Japan which worked like a treat for at least 5 or 6 years. If there is anything I would Sony to improve is the sound. Don't get me wrong! It's good but it could be a bit more punchy. I guess this is a personal preference but to me, it's a little flat. If the base and the treble were slightly more enhanced, I'd be extremely happy. And the last but not the least, please do not discontinue this. I'd be utterly and truly gutted.

Gute Klangqualität auch unter Wasser

Dieses Gerät ist meiner langjährigen Erfahrung nach eines von ganz wenigen Geräten, die wirklich auch gut beim Schwimmen und Tauchen funktionieren. Die Musik ist unter Wasser wirklich gut zu hören, obwohl es ein Lautstärkelimit zum Einstellen gibt. Als einziges Minus dieses Walkmans empfinde ich die Lebensdauer. Ich benutze dieses Gerät mehrmals pro Woche und muss es alle zwei bis drei Wochen wieder aufladen. Ich benutze nun schon das vierte Gerät, da seine Vorgänger innerhalb von ein bis zweieinhalb Jahren schließlich nach dem Aufladen jeweils nicht mehr anzuschalten waren. Alle Geräte waren dann auch nicht reparierbar. Insgesamt möchte ich nicht auf diesen Walkman verzichten.

J'ai déjà nagé 4 fois avec cet appareil, il est confortable, le son est très correct, sa prise en main un peu difficile. Il faut apprendre à le régler et les différents réglages ne sont pas toujours facile à atteindre dans l'eau. Son unique défaut est, pour moi, sa limitation de son trop basse d'où un manque de puissance sur certains morceaux. Manque témoin de charge de la batterie. Dommage.

Ottime funzionalità

Lo uso per nuotare in piscina. Ho usato per anni il modello precedente, questo ha i comandi più comodi ma noto che il volume rimane basso anche al massimo. Inoltre, usando un Mac che tiene le app musica e podcast separate, non ho ancora capito come caricarci i podcast. Per il resto rimane un ottimo prodotto.

Im Mai gekauft, bereits im Juli nicht mehr aufladbar. Ein rotes Lämpchen, dann keine Reaktion mehr. Alle Versuche, das Gerät zurückzusetzen, scheiterten. Es ist bereits das zweite Gerät, das diesen Fehler aufweist. Leider gibt es kaum vergleichbare Kopfhörer auf dem Markt, die sich zum Schwimmen eignen.

Vor zwei Monaten gekauft und keine Minute bereut. Meinen ersten Sony MP3-Player habe ich 2015 Geschenk bekommen und "langsam" (circa 1/2 Jahre) geht die Luft aus. Deshalb habe ich mich erneut für ein Sony entschieden, da ich halt seit 2015 zufrieden bin. Alles ist selbsterklärend und funktioniert wie mein altes nut mit mehr Funktionen!!! Ich bereute keinen Cent investiert zu haben und bin auch mit dem neuen mehr als zur glücklich.

Je ne l'ai pas testé dans l'eau mais pour courir il est parfait. Réglage des bruits extérieurs très pratique pour entendre les véhicules arriver, très bon son. Seule précision : 2 câbles identiques sont fournis l'un pour mettre en charge et l'autre pour connecter à l'ordi et télécharger les morceaux de musique ce qui peut induire en erreur. Bonne autonomie. Bon achat, je recommande.

I swim for 30 mins in a swimming pool around 4 times a week (only on the surface). I've bought 4 pairs of NW-WS413 over the past 7 years as they are easy to connect to a PC and reasonably easy to use. MP3 Podcasts are just about loud enough provided you boost the levels on a PC before loading. I bought this pair in June 2023, to replace my old pair when they failed - which they tend to after a couple of years. When the old pair failed in January 2024, I started using the new pair. Unfortunately this new pair failed within 3 months . They will not charge properly, despite cleaning contact on the new charge cradle - or using the cradle that charged the previous pair. Hopefully Sony will replace them.

I had 2 pairs of these in 8 years between 2014 and 2022. Since buying a new set in 2022 I am now on my 4th set as the previous 3 had malfunctioned within months of buying. It’s a fantastic product when it works and I swim most days using them but it would appear they are not made as good as they were around 2014

Non possibile cambiare la batteria, 2° durato 10gg

Il primo che ho avuto è durato quanto la batteria, nessuna assistenza si è offerta di cambiarla. Il secondo è durato solo 10 ore, poi nessun segno di vita, collegato al pc e risultato completamente vuoto perdendo musica e software. Per fortuna ero nei tempi della sostituzione. Per il terzo vedremo. Per l'uso un acqua con i suoi auricolari senza foro è necessario alzare il volume di registrazione degli mp3 fino a 94 dB, con un software tipo "MP3 Gain" altrimenti il volume è troppo basso per nuotare, operazione non immediata ai più.

Problems getting support

I've found it difficult to contact Sony so I'm hoping someone will get in touch when they see this review, I kept going round in circles on the website. This is the third set of these earphones I've owned. The previous 2 lasted on average about 3 years each which I thought was not too bad. The current ones started giving me problems before Christmas, barely 2 months after I bought them. The track forward and back buttons stopped working and the volume control worked intermittently. The only 2 buttons that work as they should are the power on/off and the play/stop button. Over the last couple of weeks another problem has started, they are no longer holding a charge. If I want to use them I need to remember and charge them immediately prior to me going for my walk otherwise they will only stay on for 5 or10 minutes. As I go for a walk for at least an hour every day this is not acceptable and I need these to be repaired or replaced. The website wants me to troubleshoot the problems and fix them myself, which isn't possible.

Poor underwater sound quality

I bought these a week ago for swimming and found the underwater sound quality to be very poor. The ear bud holes are blocked making the sound very low and worthless whilst swimming. I also found the price to be way too expensive, as I have found another pair of bone conduction headphones for around the £40 mark. These are far far better in sound and price. I wouldn't bother with these. I returned them after using them once. And there's no Bluetooth connectivity which is a real frustration.

I swim regularly, paddle board , kayak,hike and I love music, what better way to be able to do all the things I love most whilst listening to the music I love most. Freedom of movement but slow response Time

I love the freedom of movement these earphones give me for jogging and cycling, but, the response time of the earphones to change tracks is slow and sometimes stalls. Not much base on this which is a shame. Plastic quality looks nasty like a car dashboard, hard and brittle.

J’ai acheté le Walkman le mois dernier (Mars 2023) sur Amazon, très bon achat, bonne qualité pour le son et hyper pratique pour nager avec. Sincèrement je ne regrette pas, on prends vite le coup pour les boutons (oreille droite : on/off, pause/play, musique suivante/précédente) (oreille gauche : lecture aléatoire/normal, volume +/-) en bref. Le logiciel est très simple d’utilisation pour y installer ses musiques, cela permet d’avoir une bonne qualité. Autonomie très bien, je ne l’ai toujours pas rechargé (30min par jour d’utilisation) depuis 3 semaines. Je le recommande si vous voulez de la qualité sans forcément dépasser 100-150€ et surtout ne pas les sentir suand on nage, c’est extrêmement plaisant !

Didn’t buy these to swim in,just to use in the spa area,hydro pool etc after my swim. Sound is decent enough but I find that they are quite uncomfortable and not easy to get a good,snug fit. Already lost the swim proof ear bud that I fitted to it after 1 day,going to cost £10 to replace. They do what I want but not sure how well they would stay in the ear when swimming or how long you could stand having them sit in the ear when swimming? I imagine if you only swim for 20 minutes they might be fine?

Stopped working after 2 uses

Ho acquistato questo prodotto che già avevo preso anni fa per un regalo. Lo trovo molto comodo e pratico. Ottima vestibilità. Buona qualità del suono (soprattutto quando si escludono i rumori esterni con la funzione apposita). La batteria ha un'ottima durata e lo spazio per le canzoni è più che buono. Ovviamente la batteria ha maggior durata se l'utilizzo è limitato... un po' come i cellulari. Molto utile la possibilità di trasferimento brani dal PC.

Wonderful Walkman

I purchased my Walkman about a month ago and it was to replace a previous one and I use it when I go for my long morning walk. This Walkman, in my opinion, is absolutely brilliant, it fits well and it is so lovely not to have trailing wires. I downloaded loads of music from my Windows 10 laptop easily and I just play the music on shuffle, absolute bliss.

I bought it 2 weeks ago, used several times. In the water a bit too silent, in the open air very good, quality of the sound higher than average. For me quite difficult to fit the proper size

3 Sachen die mich gestört habne . 1. Fester Winkel der Ohrhörer zum Gehörgang. Hat bei mir gar nicht gepasst. Schmerzen nach der 5. Bahn. 2. Zu leise. Beim schwimmen nicht gut zu hören. 3. Die Software zum Musik hochladen. Zu kompliziert zu umfangreich . Das muss mit herüberziehen einer MP 3 Datei erledigt sein.

The facts that you need to move songs through a software is annoying. But after you got the songs, the volume is low, sound is bad.
